Star Wars: Episode IX’s Evil C-3PO May Be Linked To Anakin Skywalker

Star Wars fans were blown away by the latest trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Not only did the teaser showcase the inevitable battle between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), it also showed a clip of Rey dressed in dark robes holding a red lightsaber. Then, as if that weren't enough to keep fans busy, the trailer also revealed C-3PO with glowing red eyes.

While most fans have been busy trying to understand what Dark Rey might for The Rise of Skywalker, others have been speculating the reason behind the communications protocol droid's red eyes. One of the most recent theories that's been making the rounds online links C-3PO to Darth Vader, saying that it's very likely that we'll get to see the Sith Lord possess the droid in Episode IX.

This new theory by Lostheghost on Reddit tries to connect C-3PO's red eyes to the return of Anakin Skywalker, using Hayden Christensen's sightings to back up his/her claims. The Star Wars prequel actor has been making quite a number of public appearances lately, the most recent of which was canceled by Disney.

If Hayden were to return, then he would either appear as a Force Ghost, or as a spirit possessing C-3PO. Star Wars canon has suggested that spirits could return through various artifacts, like helmets and other mechanical objects. C-3PO has long been since linked to the Skywalker family. It would make sense for the droid to find itself linked with the spirit of Anakin Skywalker in The Rise of Skywalker.

What do you think of this wild new theory for Episode IX? Will we see C-3PO possessed by Anakin?
