Star Wars Episode IX Trailer May Have Revealed Rey As A Jedi Master

It looks like we might get to see Rey (Daisy Ridley) as a Jedi Master in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Lucasfilm released a brand new trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX back on Monday, and not only did the new video wow fans with a vision of Dark Side Rey but it also seemingly left everyone with a clue about the Jakku orphan's Jedi level.

In the new teaser for The Rise of Skywalker, fans get to see a quick look at Rey training by herself in the forest, throwing her lightsaber and catching it back with the Force. When she catches the weapon, viewers get to spot a red sash hanging from her left hand. While this might not seem like an important detail to casual Star Wars fans, Screen Rant notes that a red sash might actually hint at Rey's level in the upcoming film.

According to the publication, a red sash is often used by those learning combat at specialized academies. Other combat disciplines use different colors to indicate the level of mastery of each trainee. In real life lightsaber combat training, a red sash is indicative of high levels of power, speed, and mastery of the saber.

Could this mean that Rey has become a Jedi Master in Episode IX? It doesn't seem entirely impossible. Rey does have the Jedi texts with her. And we'll be seeing the Jakku Orphan a few years after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rey would have probably improved since her training with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres on December 20, 2019.
