Star Wars: Episode IX To Reportedly Include Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi

Lucasfilm might have given very few details about what's to come in Star Wars: Episode IX, but the internet seems to be littered with enough Star Wars rumors and theories to keep the fanbase busy while waiting for the first trailer for the third and final film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

One of the rumors that's recently resurfaced on the mill is Ewan McGregor's potential involvement in Episode IX. Talk about McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi potentially appearing in the Star Wars movie first came out in June this year and according to Cinema Blend, it's very likely that the rumor might have a nugget of truth to it.

Not only has McGregor shown continued enthusiasm over potentially returning to Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away, but fans have to remember the actor's small cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Sure, Obi-Wan might not have physically appeared in the film but in Takodana, when Rey (Daisy Ridley) discovers Anakin's lightsaber and finds herself in a vision, fans get to hear Obi-Wan telling the Force-sensitive Jakku orphan that "these are your first steps," as a Jedi.

While we can't really be certain about J.J. Abram's initial vision for the sequel trilogy, it's very likely that the director might want to tie a few of the loose threads he left lying about in The Force Awakens now that he's directing Episode IX. Why would Obi-Wan be speaking to Rey in The Force Awakens if he wasn't part of the bigger picture?

Of course, this is all speculation. Fans ought to be reminded to take this report with a grain of salt – we can't be certain of anything till Lucasfilm makes a confirmation.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres December 20, 2019.
