Star Wars: Episode IX Theory Suggests Final Fight Betwen Kylo Ren And Someone Stronger Than Rey

Star Wars might be building up to the inevitable showdown between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), however, there's a new theory going around saying that the final lightsaber battle in the final Star Wars sequel trilogy may actually have more to give the fanbase.

According to a new Star Wars theory that's been gaining traction on Reddit, the estranged son of Han Solo (Adam Driver) and Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) may very well have to battle an even stronger enemy than Rey at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Studying the patterns of the first two Star Wars trilogies, a Star Wars fan on Reddit speculates that a larger battle awaits viewers at the end of Episode IX.

In the prequel trilogy, the final battle is between Anakin (Hayden Christensen) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), a battle which the Redditor reasons as one that symbolizes "the Jedi's destruction from within."

In the original trilogy, we get to see Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) trying to battle with Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), a fight that symbolizes "the return of the Jedi."

Seeing how the final battles in the prequel and original trilogy played out, this new theory suggests that we'll get to see a "clash of Dark Side and Sith lightsaber," a battle which symbolizes "the dark side's destruction from within."

It's an interesting speculation piece, one that we may end up seeing in Episode IX. After all, the video for The Rise of Skywalker did tease the return of Palpatine.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
