Star Wars Episode IX Official Title Could Be Revealed In January

2018 is officially over but fans have yet to learn the official title of Star Wars: Episode IX. So what are the chances that the information will be revealed before the end of 2019's first month? A new report suggests that the sequel's title will be dropped this January.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there's a huge chance that the Episode IX title will be announced in late January. The prediction is based on the surprising reveal of its predecessor.

"The official title for The Last Jedi was announced on Jan. 23, 2017, so expecting a similar marketing trajectory we should have our title in just a few short weeks," the report read.

So why is the Episode IX title so important? The report points out that it should give audiences an idea of what to expect later this year. "The title will give us our first indication of what's in store for our characters, though as we learned from The Last Jedi, it may not go the way we expect," it purports.

There certainly were a lot of unexpected things in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. For one, fans who were expecting Supreme Leader Snoke to continue being the bad guy were shocked when the villain was killed by Kylo Ren. Interestingly, Adam Driver's character could turn out to be the main focus on Episode IX.

There have been speculations that Episode IX will be titled Son of Darkness. Another theory suggests that the film will be called Order of Ren or The Knights of Ren. Either way, both theories put the focus on Kylo Ren perhaps embracing the Dark Side of the Force. Hopefully, we'll find out what the real title will be soon enough.

Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to premiere on December 20.
