Star Wars: Episode IX Might Get Beaten By Avengers: Endgame At The 2019 Box Office

Star Wars might be one of the biggest and most successful science fiction franchises in Hollywood history, but this year Marvel just might beat Star Wars: Episode IX when it releases Avengers: Endgame.

Not only is the second installment in Marvel Studio's culminating two-part Avengers movie ranked as the most highly-anticipated film of the year, but Forbes writer Scott Mendelson says that Endgame is most likely to bag the trophy as the largest grossing film of 2019.

There might be a whole lot of Star Wars fans itching for new updates on Episode IX, but right now Marvel fans are coming fresh off from Avengers: Infinity War's cliffhanger where Thanos snaps his fingers and turns half of the universe's living population into dust.

Meanwhile, there's a lot of questions about Episode IX's performance after the divisiveness that Star Wars: The Last Jedi brought with it back in 2017. Right now we're not quite sure just how J.J. Abrams is going to tie in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, but with the backlash from Episode IX's predecessor, we can't be quite sure how things might turn out.

Not only that, but Star Wars has gained less traction in the foreign film market, especially n countries that didn't grow up with the franchise like China. Marvel, on the other hand, has a particularly strong hold in these countries. It's much less difficult for different cultures to understand the concept of a superhero set in the modern era than for them to understand Force-using knights in space.
