It looks like a Star Wars icon will be coming back in Star Wars: Episode IX. A new leak has somehow revealed that the Skywalker lightsaber will return, thanks to one character who is eager to repair it.
The Skywalker lightsaber is certainly a sore subject for most fans who were mortified when the weapon was destroyed in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. However, there's a possibility that director J.J. Abrams is eager to change things for the lightsaber in Episode IX. The new leak suggests that Rey has decided to keep the Skywalker legacy alive by fixing the lightsaber that she and Kylo Ren broke (via MakingStarWars).
"Information about Rey was held back but her lightsaber, the Skywalker saber, will be back," the leak revealed. "So far there hasn't been anything solid about how the sword has changed. But I think there's a really cool symmetry in that Rey fixes the sword from the past and Kylo fixes the helmet and they bring those things into their seemingly final conflict."
This is interesting news indeed. It sounds like Rey is somehow going back to her roots and making use of discarded items she has found, just like what she used to do in Jakku. We're certainly hoping to get a glimpse at the new lightsaber soon.
The information about Kylo repairing the helmet he destroyed in The Last Jedi also has people speculating even more about his future. After all, it was previously reported that the Episode IX title will be a reference to the former Ben Solo being the Son of Darkness. It's possible that Kylo will actually embrace the Dark Side and try to retrieve the new Skywalker lightsaber from Rey. However, none of these has been confirmed just yet so it's best to take it with a grain of salt.
Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
