In case you missed it, J.J. Abrams has shared a photo from the set of Star Wars: Episode IX to announce that the film has wrapped principal photography. Not surprisingly, the image has already spawned several theories about what will happen in the highly anticipated movie. Although we're not sure where the picture was taken, we might have an idea on why Rey is still wearing the same outfit she had in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
People have argued that Abrams had used an old photo because Daisy Ridley's hair and costume looks to be the same as it appeared The Force Awakens. However, others have quickly pointed out that John Boyega and Oscar Isaac are wearing new costumes.
Nevertheless, there is a reason why Rey is wearing old threads. According to Making Star Wars, it has a lot to do with the old footage of General Leia Organa.
"Rey's hair is in the style above because it has to match older footage of Rey that was shot with Carrie [Fisher] for The Force Awakens," the report reads. It is also noted that "details of the sequence are not being talked about at this time." Hopefully, we'll get more information about the scene in the future.
The location is also a mystery although some believe that Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron will end up back in Jakku. However, there is also a possibility that the trio will end up on Luke Skywalker's home planet of Tatooine to give the Skywalker Saga a truly fitting conclusion.
Star Wars: Episode IX has not yet been given an official title although this could be announced soon now that the film has wrapped. In the meantime, the movie is scheduled for release on December 20.
