Star Wars: Episode IX Continues Celebrity Tradition With Ed Sheeran Hire

Looks like Disney and Lucasfilm are at it again, casting big-name celebrities who will have minor roles as stormtroopers in their next Star Wars movie. They did it in the previous films, adding Daniel Craig, Prince Harry, and a number of cast members from Game of Thrones as stormtroopers, though Craig got a bit more screen time than the others. Now, it looks like Star Wars: Episode IX just cast another celebrity in a minor role; Ed Sheeran.

According to The Sun, Sheeran will be a First Order Stormtrooper, though he won't have a major standing and will just be a foot soldier. This has been the typical use of celebrities in Disney's Star Wars films and it should be fun finding out who is who when the movie comes out. Maybe some of them will also be aliens?

Sheeran is no stranger to minor cameos like this, appearing in Game of Thrones to the annoyance of many who were watching it. While he wasn't horrible, most people felt that having him sing and act for a bit was gratuitous though at least he didn't kill anyone major. If only they gave him a gory death like Justin Bieber on CSI.

Expect more celebrities to appear in the movie as a stormtrooper because that is basically a tradition now. At the least, they won't be eating a lot of time and the movie will still focus on new characters like Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron.

Star Wars: Episode IX comes out on December 20, 2019.
