Lucasfilm might have announced the official cast list for Star Wars: Episode IX about a month ago, but it looks like director J.J. Abrams is still bringing hands on board the third and final installment in Star Wars' sequel trilogy.
Not only did the Star Wars: The Force Awakens director bring in his former collaborators Keri Russel and Dominic Monaghan to fill in roles in Episode IX, he also tapped Doctor Who star Matt Smith. Now, a new report says that the production is currently in the middle of the process of casting an actress for another new female role in the movie.
According to a new report by That Hashtag Show, word from the set says that Abrams and his team in Episode IX are looking for a 27-35-year-old actress to play the role codenamed "Karina." Though there isn't that much information about Karina's backstory or her allegiances, the character is described as a "younger Charlize Theron with street smarts" who also has a "good sense of humor."
This is pretty interesting news for Star Wars fans. Though it seems like this Karina is going to end up being a side character in the film whose main role is to be Episode IX's comedic relief, it sounds like the character might get some significant screen time in the upcoming Star Wars movie. We wonder how everything's going to fall in place once Abrams continues production.
Star Wars: Episode IX is set to hit cinemas on December 20, 2019.
