Droids are a staple in the Star Wars franchise. Not only do they help main characters like Mark Hamill’s Luke and Carrie Fisher’s Leia complete their respective missions, but droids like R2-D2 and C3PO serve as comic relief for most of the films in the Star Wars saga. Droids also helped wage war in the Clone Wars and helped fight in the rebellion like Allan Tudyk’s salt machine, K2-SO in the critically acclaimed Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One.
However, while the Star Wars universe is filled with so many droids of all shapes and sizes, the real world is still beginning to explore robotic development and androids. To give fans and techies a quick overview of where the real world is now in terms of robot development,Forbes has decided to create a new infographic comparing the robots in Star Wars and real-life droids.
Unlike the advanced technology featured in Star Wars droids like K2-SO, we certainly still have a long way to go in terms of android development. Of course human kind is doing so much better in the fields of robotics today than it was say, five years ago, however to reach the same level as K2-SO or C3PO, scientists will definitely have t step up their game.
