Star Wars Director Ron Howard Responds To #MakeSolo2Happen

Solo: A Star Wars Story might not have done well for itself at the box office during its release last year, but Star Wars fans pretty much enjoyed the film, and for the past few days some have been campaigning for the film's sequel on social media.

Taking to Twitter, Star Wars fans have been asking Lucasfilm to #MakeSolo2Happen, hoping that the studio hears them out days ahead of the Star Wars spinoff's one year anniversary. Noticing the buzz, Solo: A Star Wars Story director Ron Howard has decided to respond to fans' little campaign for Solo 2 with a smile. Check out the filmmaker's post on Twitter down here:

Solo was originally supposed to be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, however the two were fired after clashing with Lucasfilm. Howard was then brought in to save the production, and while the film didn't really achieve much in the box office (in fact the Star Wars spinoff underperformed), it did a pretty good job among fans and critics.

While it seems a bit unlikely that Disney might create another Solo movie given the film's commercial turnout, this call for Solo 2 might change the studio's mind. Fans might have to wait a bit longer than they'd want though – the Star Wars film franchise is taking a break after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Even then, Solo 2 will have to compete for slots with other films like the upcoming trilogies by Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff as well as Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
