Star Wars Darth Vader Actor Dave Prowse Passes Away at Age 85

It's a truly sad day for Star Wars fans. Dave Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the original trilogy films, has passed away at the age of 85.

The news was confirmed by Prowse's agent Thomas Bowington, who spoke to BBC about his client's passing.

"May the force be with him, always!" Bowington said. "Though famous for playing many monsters - for myself, and all who knew Dave and worked with him, he was a hero in our lives."

Mark Hamill also shared the news on his official Twitter account along with a touching message about Prowse.

"So sad to hear David Prowse has passed. He was a kind man & much more than Darth Vader. Actor-Husband-Father-Member of the Order of the British Empire-3 time British Weightlifting Champion & Safety Icon the Green Cross Code Man. He loved his fans as much as they loved him," Hamill wrote before adding the hashtag #RIP.

Prowse was originally a weightlifter from Bristol and he was cast as Darth Vader in A New Hope because of his towering height and imposing built. Together with James Earl Jones, who provided the voice of the Sith Lord, he played a villain who would forever be remembered in pop culture.

The cause of Prowse's death has not yet been revealed. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Goodbye, old friend. May the Force be with you.
