Rey is undoubtedly one of the most, if not the most divisive character in the entire Star Wars franchise, and fans have felt that way about her since Star Wars: The Last Jedi came out almost four years ago. However, 2019's The Rise of Skywalker toyed with the idea of giving the character a different direction, and her ability to be lured by the dark side was heavily teased.
TROS marked the debut (if you can call it that) of Daisy Ridley's dark side counterpart aka "Dark Rey" who played a brief but somewhat vital role in the real Rey's vision. The one we ended up getting was already too menacing, donning a black Sith robe and wielding a dual-bladed red lightsaber but apparently, she almost looked way different in the film.
Artist Adam Brockbank recently unveiled a never-before-seen concept artwork for Dark Rey and she looks even more terrifying than she did in The Rise of Skywalker. Apparently, the original idea for her look was to give her a red-ish outfit with her skin looking more pale and rotten. Check it out here:
The idea of Rey turning to the dark side in the final film of the Skywalker saga would've been a double-edged sword had they pushed through with it. On one hand, it would've been a fresh creative direction for the character that could justify why she was too powerful in the franchise. However, it would've also been too unoriginal considering Anakin Skywalker had the same journey in the prequels.
