It might have been years since Daisy Ridley decided to leave social media, but it looks like the Star Wars star has no intention of returning, even though Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy is coming to an end with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Ridley just recently appeared on BuzzFeed News' morning show AM to DM to help promote her upcoming film Ophelia, and while the actress was mostly there to talk about the project, she couldn't help but weigh in on a number of other topics.
BuzzFeed News decided to touch on the topic of social media during the interview, finding that the actress wasn't that comfortable with how social media amplified the voices of critical fans who were upset Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy was focused on a female lead.
"I honestly think now with social media and stuff...it's great to have freedom of expression, but I do feel like people think opinions have so much weight," she told the publication. "I don't really think bad vibes should have the sun shone on them. Like, I don't want to read your thing!"
Ridley might have amassed more than 2 million followers on Instagram, but the actress decided to leave the site in 2016, saying that she felt pressured to post all the time on the platform.
"I was like, 'I need to post. Oh my god, it's been this many days.' It's actually been kind of nice not to be on it," she said at the time. "I'm 24. I have a lot of growing up to do. I have to deal with loads of stuff, myself personally. For that to be projected with millions of people watching, that is like a bit of an extra pressure."
The Star Wars star left Facebook soon after.
Now, Ridley promises never to return to social media. According to the actress, using social media sites like Instagram and Facebook has been "cut off like a Skywalker limb."
While it's disappointing that we won't get to interact with Ridley online, we definitely understand why the actress would want to keep away from social media. Star Wars fans can become very intense, and some have been known for bullying Star Wars cast and crew for all sorts of ridiculous reasons.
Ridley is set to reprise her role as Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which premieres on December 20, 2019.
