Daisy Ridley is making her triumphant return to the Star Wars universe and while most of us expected it to happen at some point, her decision to accept the project after the sequel trilogy's polarizing reception is still enough to send fans into overdrive.

At last month's Star Wars Celebration in London, it was announced that the Rey Skywalker actor will lead Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's untitled film. The said project takes place 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker with the sequel trilogy's lead protagonist forming her own Jedi Order.

However, a new report claims that Ridley is only playing a supporting role in the project dubbed by many as "Episode X". On The Hot Mic podcast, insider Jeff Sneider clarified Ridley's position in the anticipated film.

Despite the actress being presented during Star Wars Celebration as the project's lead, she's only rumored to play a role similar to what Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker played in the original and sequel trilogies respectively.

He explained: "Yeah, from what I understand, from some of the rumors that have come out here, Daisy won't necessarily be the lead, she'll be like the Luke or the Obi-Wan of the situation as she rebuilds the new Jedi Order..."

Well, the whole plot of the next film is centered on Jedi Master Rey establishing a new order so the possibility of the project introducing new lead characters to the fold isn't exactly off the table.

It's also worth noting that Damon Lindelof's original script featured two new Jedi characters so I guess Lucasfilm is still sticking to that plan despite his exit from the project.

I gotta say though, it makes absolute sense for Rey to become the film's lead character because her journey is just getting started.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's untitled Star Wars film is expected to hit theaters in 2025.
