Last week it was reported that legendary composer John Williams was hospitalized in London, and a lot of fans were suddenly worried about his condition. The good news is, Williams is all good and well, and he's set to come home soon.
This news comes from Mike Matessino (via SoundTrackFest), a record producer who has first-hand information from Williams' circle. We don't really know what illness afflicted Williams so much that he had to be hospitalized, but hopefully he'll be okay moving forward.
Last week, Williams had to cancel a concert appearance because of his sickness, but the concert still went on with Maestro Dirk Brosse appointed by Williams himself to take his place.
For now, Lucasfilm is working on Star Wars Episode IX, and when news came out that Williams was hospitalized, a lot of fans started wondering if he would be able to provide the score for that film. As it stands, Williams has been the solo composer of every main Star Wars entry in the franchise.
Then again, composers like Michael Giacchino and John Powell also did great work with their anthology films like Rogue One and Solo respectively. If Williams were to ever find himself not well enough to work, I think these two have a great grasp of the feel that a Star Wars score is supposed to have.
Now it looks like Williams is all fine. Let's hope he can work on Episode IX without anymore unexpected snags.
Star Wars Episode IX comes out Dec. 20, 2019.
