Baby Yoda might have stolen the hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere ever since he appeared in the first episode of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, however, it seems like the series still has a lot of unanswered questions about the child.
Where does Baby Yoda come from? Why do the remaining forces of the Empire want Baby Yoda so badly? What does Moff Gideon want to do with the Child?
While we expect to learn the answers to some of these questions in the second season of Jon Favreau's hit Star Wars series, Inverse suggests that a long-forgotten episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars may help explain why Moff Gideon desperately wants to acquire Baby Yoda.
Returning to The Clone Wars episode "Children of the Force," Inverse reminds fans how the Emperor was kidnapping Force-sensitive children for his experiments. In the episode, fans get to see Palpatine performing a surgical procedure called "surgical slave conditioning."
Though Palpatine was warned that the surgical operation was dangerous and that it could kill the children, Darth Sidious went ahead with the procedure anyway because he was hoping that it would render the children submissive to any of the Emperor's Dark Side commands.
Though Palpatine is nowhere to be found in The Mandalorian, the Emperor's subordinates may have heard of "surgical slave conditioning" and may have wanted to do the same with Baby Yoda.
It doesn't seem too farfetched – in season 1 of the series, we get to see Mando (Pedro Pascal) overhearing a conversation between The Client (Werner Herzog) and the Doctor that the experiment could potentially kill the child.
