The Director Behind the Star Wars Cerveza Cristal Ad Speaks Out

In a recent interview, Ignacio González, who directed the Cerveza Cristal advertisements, explained their decision and the process of inserting them into the Star Wars films.

"I looked for cuts in the film to make the ad break, moments where actors reached for something or looked over at something," he explained. "I never touched or intervened with the film itself."

He also shared that they were "filmed with a budget of around $10 in a closet."

Regarding the recent viral sensation status of the advertisements, González said that he was delighted by how it was received as most of the fans understood the humor behind the concept.

"I heard that some Star Wars purists were looking for me, and I don’t think it’s because they liked it. But, I’d say 99% of people were fascinated by it and understood the humour, it was very creative at the time," he said.

Despite the popularity of the advertisements recently, there was no uptick in sales in the past month according to the current marketing manager of Cerveza Cristal, Felipe Saráh Tornero.

However, they are considering launching the brand outside Chile due to the boost of awareness internationally although they are no longer doing "any more film interventions."
