Star Wars Celebration Sees Touching Rey And Kylo Ren Proposal

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have been building up towards a romance between Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) as the two were brought closer by the Force, however, when the estranged son of Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) decides to spiral deeper into the Dark Side, Rey decides to turn away.

While it seems like the prospect of romance between the two seems highly unlikely in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, a couple in this year's Star Wars Celebration actually made it work.

CNET attended the 2019 Star Wars Celebration in Chicago last weekend, meeting a couple of Kylo Ren and Rey cosplayers from Sweden. The couple met online and had been with each other for three years. Attending the Star Wars Celebration gathering in Chicago, Live and Robert recreated the intimate scene shared by Kylo Ren and Rey in The Last Jedi where the two touch hands. A Luke Skywalker cosplayer is even there to react in shock the same way the Jedi Master did in the film.

However, Liv diverged from the script, making a "prop request" which turned out be a tiny box meant for Robert. When her partner opened the box, he found a pair of rings together with a note that read "Robert, I love you, will you marry me."

"I didn't understand, and was super confused, because I'd never think she'd be the one to pop the question," Robert told CNET later on. "But then it clicked, I yelled out ‘What!?!?! And my head went into hyperdrive."

It's a pretty sweet moment to see Star Wars fans celebrate their love during conventions and gatherings like Star Wars Celebration. We can only wonder whether Kylo Ren and Rey might be able to receive even an ounce of the same kind of love in The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
