Star Wars Book Confirms Force Lightning is a Dark Side Ability

The revelation that Rey can use Force Lightning was an equally astonishing and shocking sight to see in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker but at the same time, it left a lot of people scratching their heads because it was always believed that the said skill can only be performed by dark-siders. Now, Star Wars has pretty much confirmed that the ability is indeed a dark side power which begs the question, is there more to Rey than just being a Jedi?

According to a new book from DK titled The Star Wars Book, the use of Force Lightning is innate within dark-siders. Twitter user Old Man Binks shared some pages from the said book, a part of it reads: "Force lightning is a dark side ability used to torture, disfigure, and even kill one's victims. Blue in color, Sith shoot Force lightning from their hands by calling on their hatred and aggressive feelings. However, while a deadly weapon, it is not unstoppable. Force lightning can be deflected and absorbed by a lightsaber, and select Jedi have proved able to neutralize the technique through the power of the light side." Check out the image here:

Okay, that one is actually a no-brainer especially for avid Star Wars fans but it makes you think. It's no secret that a lot of mystery still surrounds Rey and her true capabilities. Sure, most of them were already answered over the course of the sequel trilogy but one can't help but wonder how exactly she was able to use a dark side power when from the start, she's always been depicted as an ally of the light side. Being a Palpatine doesn't exactly justify that as Rey would have to master the technique first. Hell, even Luke Skywalker didn't perform any dark side ability since his father Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader was a devotee himself. Well, considering the Skywalker saga is no more, it looks like Rey's true origins will remain unexplored for the time being.
