Rumor had come out recently that the Star Wars film that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are working on is going to bet during the Old Republic era, and now it seems to be confirmed. What's more, the film could start production sometime within the year.
This was confirmed by insider Daniel Richtman on Twitter:
The series was described as a cross between Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, and it's supposed to draw in the audience of the franchise that are more into the heavy lore of the world. If The Last Jedi has taught us anything, there are two types of Star Wars fans out there, fans who enjoy a good story, and fans who focus on the lore making sense. Hopefully, this series by Benioff and Weiss will find its audience within the fandom.
With Game of Thrones finally ending this year, Weiss and Benioff are now free to work on their project with Lucasfilm. Though Star Wars Episode IX is at the spotlight for Celebration next month, a lot of fans are hoping we can get an update on other upcoming properties like Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian plus these film series by Rian Johnson and Benioff and Weiss.
We don't know when we'll get any official announcement, but the fans are already excited to see this whole new (or rather old) era of Star Wars come to the big screen.
No release date has been set for Benioff and Weiss' Star Wars movie, but Star Wars Episode IX comes out Dec. 20.
