Star Wars: Benioff and Weiss’ Initial Plan was to Explore the Origin of the Jedi

News had just come out that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (or D&D as the internet calls them) had left their Star Wars project, and though some fans are relieved to have them gone, they can't help but wonder what they had planned originally. Interestingly enough, it was said that the two wanted to delve into the origin of the Jedi Knights.

Variety writes that Benioff and Weiss were interested in telling the story of the first Jedi and how they came to exist. We don't have any more details on what their rough plan was, but at least we know that the seeds had already been sown in The Last Jedi, what with Luke hiding out near the first Jedi temple.

For now, we don't know how Lucasfilm plans to move forward. If anything their gameplan from 2015 looks to be entirely different from the strategy their working with now. Hopefully, with D&D gone, Rian Johnson could push forward with his trilogy plans, and with him promising to go somewhere the franchise hasn't gone too yet, then he could very much explore the origin of the Jedi as well—I mean if that's what he wants to do.

Personally, I just want anthology films to come back, but maybe I'll change my mind once I get to see how The Mandalorian turns out on Disney+.

Catch The Mandalorian when it debuts Nov. 12; Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes out Dec. 20.
