Star Wars Author Justina Ireland On The Exciting High Republic

Last month, Lucasfilm unveiled the mysterious Project Luminous, revealing a publishing initiative called Star Wars: The High Republic. Not only is the studio offering fans with adult, middle-grade, and YA fiction taking place 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, but it's also preparing a slew of comic book series set during the "golden age of the Jedi."

Five writers were tasked to work with Lucasfilm Story Group to help create Star Wars: The High Republic: Claudia Gray, Daniel Jose Older, Cavan Scott, Charles Soule, and Justina Ireland. Speaking in an interview with Polygon, Ireland talks about how excited the team is to present Star Wars fans with new stories from a new era.

According to the writer, one of the most exciting things about The High Republic is how completely separate and standalone the publishing initiative is.

"We're not following that same Skywalker saga that we've been following for so very many years. We're telling a whole new story," Ireland tells the entertainment news outlet.

The High Republic is going to feature the Jedi at their finest, something that Star Wars fans didn't really get to see in any of the Star Wars films. Sure, we get to see the Jedi shine during perilous moments in various times in the films and in the various Star Wars animated series, but the prequels were really all about the fall of the Jedi. After Order 66, there's barely any Jedi left in the galaxy far, far away.

In the interview, Ireland talks about her book for The High Republic, the Test of Courage. Focusing on 16-year-old Vernestra, the Test of Courage is a middle-grade book that features the story of a Jedi prodigy.

It's definitely an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan.

Star Wars: The High Republic begins in August this year.
