Star Wars: Anthony Daniels Teases C-3PO Return in Upcoming Project

The Star Wars franchise is bigger than ever thanks to numerous TV shows that are in the works as well as the video games and novels that tell more stories from the galaxy far, far away. The current renaissance of the franchise has resulted in the return of some of our favorite characters from the original trilogy as well as the live-action appearances of the characters from the animated series, novels, and comics. Now, it looks like a fan-favorite character is set to make his return in an upcoming project.

Anthony Daniels, who plays C-3PO since the first Star Wars film in 1977, posted a photo on Instagram of him wearing a motion-capture suit in Ealing Studios with the caption "Finally, a new suit - that fits!" and the hashtags "#mocap #ealingstudios #c3po #iamc3po #starwars" hinting that he is reprising the role of C-3PO in an upcoming Star Wars project. While the actor didn't specify which project he is currently working at, a lot of fans are speculating that it is for the animated series Droids: A Star Wars Story. The project, which was announced by Lucasfilm back in 2020, is set to be an animated series that will introduce us to a new hero guided by legendary duo R2-D2 and C-3PO. Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light & Magic are collaborating on the series.

Given that Droids: A Star Wars Story is so far the only confirmed upcoming Star Wars project that will have C-3PO, it is very likely that it is the project that Daniels is currently working on. While it's an animated series, perhaps they are going to employ motion-capture technology when it comes to animating C-3PO which could explain why he has to wear the suit. It is also likely that the character will have a top-secret appearance in one of the upcoming live-action series.
