Disney's Star Warssequel trilogy isn't held in high regard by fans, that's for sure but give credit where credit is due because, despite its obvious flaws, the divisive trilogy still had its moments. Now, Lucasfilm may have ended the Skywalker Saga in 2019 but that's not to say that we've seen the last of sequel trilogy characters like Rey, Finn, and Poe.

There have been serious rumblings over the last couple of months that the franchise is set to explore the aftermath of The Rise of Skywalker in Star Wars Episode X and while nothing has been officially confirmed yet, that is obviously the most logical route for the franchise to take especially after the MandoVerse ends.

While the future of the franchise is still shrouded by mystery, we can confirm that Star Wars will be telling us the story of how the sequels came to be. According to their official website, Del Rey and Disney Lucasfilm Press will be releasing several Star Wars books in 2022, including a novel titled Shadows of the Sith which will revolve around Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian chasing Ochi of Bestoon to rescue a family which will presumably be Rey's.

Other books set to be released under this new initiative are novels centered on Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and the early days of the Clone Wars.

Obviously, the upcoming Force Awakens prequel book isn't going to change the result of the sequel trilogy but I guess it will be pretty neat to have an idea of what exactly transpired before we were introduced to Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren. And who knows, with rumors of the MandoVerse exploring the events up until the beginning of the sequels, Lucasfilm could end up using the material from the books and showcase it in live-action.

Written by Adam Christopher, Shadows of the Sith is scheduled for release on June 28, 2022. Meanwhile, speaking of the MandoVerse, the third season of The Mandalorian has reportedly started filming.
