The conflict between the Rebellion and the Empire (the Resistance and the First Order in the sequel trilogy) might be at the center of most of the Star Wars film franchise, however, Star Wars animation supervisor Hal Hickel strongly believes that the franchise isn't about war.
Hickel just recently responded to the comments made by Ben Shapiro's about Star Wars, saying that the conservative political commentator fails to understand what the franchise is really about. Shapiro stirred up quite the controversy online when he went on The Ben Shapiro Show to talk about the future of Star Wars.
In the latest episode of his show, Shapiro complains about Disney's attempt at representation and diversity, saying that it's been absurd to see Lucasfilm focusing on female heroes "because Star Wars is essentially a little boys property."
Angered by Shapiro's backward take on Star Wars, Hickel responded to the post saying that Shapiro doesn't really understand what Star Wars is about.
"Yep, not surprised in the least to find that Ben is just one more empty human who completely failed to understand what Star Wars is about. Kind of glad actually, that over and over I see correlation between political views and trash opinions on pop culture," the Star Wars supervisor wrote on his post.
When asked by a follower to expound on what Star Wars really is about, Hickel goes on to say that it isn't about "exclusion," and that nor is it about war.
"Star Wars, while set against the backdrop of war, is not ‘about' war," Hickel goes on to explain.
