Star Wars: Andor sets up Cassian into being the rebel hero that he is in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and it shows how he became involved in the rebellion, one of the pivotal events that happened in the whole lore of the galaxy far, far away. He had a lot of influence, and one of which is Kino Loy.

Kino Loy is a fellow inmate of Cassian Andor on Narkina 5 and he definitely build up some principle on Cassian as to how the Empire treats people, lighting a flame on Cassian's perspective into joining the bigger cause of the rebellion.

Unfortunately, when they orchestrated a near-impossible breakout from jail, Kino Loy stayed behind because he couldn't swim while Cassian and the others successfully got out.

Whether Kino Loy will turn up in Star Wars: Andor Season 2 remains a question but speaking with /Film, showrunner Tony Gilroy played coy about the return of Andy Serkis' Kino Loy saying, "We didn't see him die."

The general rule in movies and series is that when a character isn't seen dead on screen, chances are, they're still alive, and Kino Loy is nowhere near being dead in Star Wars: Andor. It's just that he didn't escape because he couldn't swim so there's still a glimmer of hope that he could return, alive.

While there is no confirmation yet whether Andy Serkis will be back for Star: Wars: Andor Season 2, Kino Loy already played a huge part on Cassian's awakening of being against the Empire, and thus, igniting a flame within Cassian to join the rebellion more than ever.
