Star Wars Almost Had a Good Darth Vader More Powerful Than the Original

Darth Vader has always been one of the most iconic villains in cinematic history. Vader's breadth, his heavy-breathing robotic voice, his clock, and menacing helmet make fans quiver in fear and delight.

Interestingly enough, it seems like Star Wars did think of having a redeemed version of Vader, one more powerful than Anakin Skywalker who had fallen to the Dark Side.

Comic Book Review managed to find concept art for a redeemed version of Darth Vader in the development of the videogame, Star Wars Battlefront 4. Lucasfilm had been developing the game before Disney purchased the galaxy far, far away, and unfortunately, the title never saw release.

It's such a shame because this version of Vader would have existed right after the pivotal battle between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar. That means that this version of Anakin Skywalker would have been redeemed earlier on in Star Wars canon, meaning that Palpatine wouldn't end up with Vader as his apprentice.

It would also mean that the redeemed version of Anakin would have been even more powerful than Vader. While Anakin suffered major injuries and incapacitation, the technology that we get to see in the suit for the redeemed character would have served the hero better than the suit that Darth Sidious provided his student.

Hoping to keep his apprentice obedient, Sidious crafted a rough-hewn and torturous suit that would continually inflict pain on Vader. Not only that, but it stunted his power. Sure, he was powerful enough to defeat others, but not enough to defeat Palpatine.

This new suit would have provided Anakin with a better system – a respiratory cowl allowing him to breathe and speak plus prosthetics that allowed for better mobility.
