Star Wars’ Adam Driver in Talks to Join Ridley Scott's The Last Duel

Adam Driver may be swinging his lightsaber for the last time in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but it looks like he could be in for some more sword fighting with Matt Damon this time.

According to Variety, Driver is in early talks to play the lead role opposite Damon in The Last Duel. Apparently the role was originally supposed to go to Ben Affleck, but Affleck has opted to play a supporting part in the film instead. The film is set to be directed Ridley Scott.

This is the synopsis of the film according to Variety:

Set in 14th century France, the movie is an epic tale of betrayal and justice, told from three distinct points of view: two knights (Damon and Driver) whose bond is tested by treachery and a young woman (Jodie Comer) forced to navigate the brutal and oppressive culture of the era in order to survive.

Though I like Driver, I'm kind of bummed that Affleck didn't end up starring opposite Damon. The two are known to be very good friends, and they haven't appeared onscreen together since Good Will Hunting. Besides, if he's not playing the Dark Knight anymore, I would love to see him play an actual knight.

No release date has been set for Disney Fox's The Last Duel, but with a production start set for early 2020, we could be getting a release sometime in the middle of 2021. You can catch Adam Driver in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which comes out Dec. 20.
