Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker led to the stunning revelation that Rey is actually the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine and it's pretty safe to say that a lot of fans of the saga weren't ready for it. In the sequel trilogy, Rey has always been portrayed as a nobody, and although The Last Jedi teased her possible connection to Luke Skywalker, Episode VIII still pretty much solidified that Rey didn't come from Luke's lineage.

Apparently, actress Daisy Ridley was as shocked as we are when she learned that Rey would turn out to be a Palpatine. According to the British actress, she had no idea about the character's major twist in Episode IX until they started filming.

Author Sariah Wilson revealed new bits from her recent conversation with the Chaos Walking actress. Wilson said that she told Ridley how disappointed she was when she found out that Rey is actually a Palpatine. Unsurprisingly, Daisy agreed with her sentiments but Sariah still apologized for bringing it up.

Daisy explained: "I literally was told that she was no one, so yeah, I totally understand that. I do understand that." Read the entire thread here:

It's no secret how polarizing the sequel trilogy ended up becoming and it's quite a shame considering The Force Awakens showed a lot of promise. I've always believed though that the films especially the Rey character was just a victim of bad writing that could've been improved.

But hey, it is what it is. To Daisy's credit, she played the character extremely well and I can even go as far as saying that she carried the entire sequel trilogy, Mary Sue argument aside. If I had things my way, I'd love to bring the character back and get the redemption she so rightfully deserves.

The entire Skywalker saga is available for streaming on Disney+.
