Star Wars Actor Oscar Isaac on Creative Control in The Rise of Skywalker

There might be a whole lot riding on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker but it looks like the film gave its actors more freedom to play around with their lines and actions.

Speaking on an interview to help promote his newest Star Wars movie with Sirius (via Reddit), The Rise of Skywalker actor Oscar Isaac talks about The Rise of Skywalker and how the development of the film was so different compared to the other Star Wars films that he's been in.

The Poe Dameron actor was asked to confirm that more collaboration and freedom were given in Episode IX, and Isaacs couldn't help but agree.

"Absolutely," the Star Wars actor said, "Even just technically. So there were a lot more scenes were shot in wonders which means that there wasn't like, ‘okay we shoot your close up, we shoot my close up,' you know what that meant was giving a bit of control."

According to Isaac, The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams trusted the film's cast to know more about their characters and to give input in the development of their characters in the film. The actor was surprised to see Abrams giving the film's stars so much creative control over their characters given the size and given the pressure of making Episode IX right.

It's definitely going to be interesting seeing how this creative control plays out in the movie and whether it'll be a positive effect on the film.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
