Last month saw the leak of concept art for Colin Trevorrow's original plans for Star Wars Episode IX. Dubbed Star Wars: Duel of the Fates, we got a look at Rey with a double-bladed lightsaber, a decrepit Coruscant and more. What's interesting is, we have 28 new images from the movie that might have been.
Check them out:
Again we get a look at Rey brandishing her dual-bladed saber, and we also have Finn and Poe disguised as troopers (or maybe that's Mandalorian armor?). We also get a new mask for Kylo Ren that further resembles Vader's, rather than his TFA mask fixed like in The Rise of Skywalker.
Probably the scene that I loved most from the concept art was the one where Rey has a vision featuring all the Jedi. She is named ‘Rey Solana' and is lauded for her ability to have embraced the Dark Side and the Light in order to ‘find the balance within'.
Personally I think it's a better follow-up to The Last Jedi, and it's not as the soulless fanservice machine that TROS came out to be. I like the idea of Rey transcending the Jedi teachings, and she would be off to create a new generation of Force Users. I also love how Kylo takes the center stage as the villain here, rather than be second fiddle yet again to someone who is more evil.
Fans are honestly torn over this version of the film, but we have to remember that this was based on early drafts. Personally, the draft that leaked of Trevorrow's script also had its problems, but I liked it more than what TROS gave us.
For now, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is still in theaters.
