Star Trek: The Next Generation Characters Possibly Showing up in Lower Decks

Fans are already expecting Star Trek: Lower Decks to be a hilarious look into the lives of secondary characters in the Star Trek Universe. However, there might be some major stars showing up in the upcoming animated series. Showrunner Mike McMahan has just teased on the possibility that the show will bring in characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

McMahan recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Lower Decks and he admitted that he is hoping to sneak in a few notable characters into the series.

"There are a lot of recognizable characters in the galaxy at that point. Next Gen is my favorite era. And as a huge Trek fan, I would definitely want to try to use some of them so that I could not only build out the world, but also work with some of my heroes," McMahan said.

Wait, so does this mean we'll see the Enterprise crew in Lower Decks? McMahan chose to play coy with his plans.

"I can't get more specific than that. You'll have to wait and see," he said.

Although we're not getting a real update from McMahan just yet, Trekkies are already hoping that Jean-Luc Picard and his crew will be stopping by to check on the folks in the USS Cerritos. Let's just hope we'll get more details soon.

Star Trek: Lower Decks has not yet been given an official release date. However, all 10 episodes are expected to premiere on CBS All Access later this year.
