Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Star Anson Mount Says He Auditioned to Play Batman in DCEU

Ben Affleck's performance as Batman in the DCEU has been beloved by fans, even though the initial casting announcement was received with backlash. Luckily, we will see more of him as the Caped Crusader in The Flash. But as it turns out, there was one notable actor who could have played the role.

In an interview with CBR, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount revealed that he auditioned for the role of Batman in the DCEU film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He said, "I guess I can tell this now, but I was vying for Batman v. Superman back in the day and worked my tail off on a super-secret audition and put myself on tape while I was shooting Hell on Wheels, and they had the [director of photography] come do it. We really worked hard on this thing, sent it in, and they gave it to Ben Affleck."

Despite this, Mount was still able to play (or voice rather) Batman in the upcoming animated film Injustice so it's a full-circle moment for him. But it is interesting to hear that he almost played Batman in the DCEU. It's a good what-if question to ponder about what it would have looked like if he ended up getting the role. Mount has proved that he is a great actor and perhaps he would have done well as the character, but Zack Snyder chose Affleck at the end and they saw him as the ideal Batman for his vision.

Now, the actor is now known for playing Captain Christopher Pike in the current Star Trek shows. He is set to lead the upcoming series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds which would take us to the USS Enterprise crew's voyage to the final frontier years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series. Even though Mount didn't end up playing one of DC's popular heroes, he did end up now playing a beloved Star Trek character.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to premiere on Paramount+ in 2022.
