Star Trek: Plague Nerdalogues Second Wave to Feature Star Wars Actor Ahmed Best as Jean-Luc Picard

It looks like Marc Bernardin is planning to make The Plague Nerdalogues a permanent thing. The Star Trek: Picard producer has just confirmed that there will be a second wave of the video project and this time, it's helping the Black Lives Matter movement. And there is no better way to take on the project than having Star Wars actor Ahmed Best play Jean-Luc Picard.

According to the Daily Star Trek News, The first Plague Nerdalogues raised money for the No Kid Hungry charity and featured Tricia Helfer, Phil Lamarr, Brea Grant, Rekha Sharma, and Jonathan Frakes. Now the second video project will raise money for the BLM movement and star Bernardin as well as awesome actors like American Gods' Yetide Badaki and Yvette Nicole Brown of Community. Best will take on the role of Picard in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Drumhead.

"It became clear to me, as both an African American and a human being, that if we could raise money for a cause that's affected so many since they were born, then we should. [...] And when I mentioned to the actors who'd already contributed their monologues, not a one raised an objection," Bernardin said in a statement. "We all stand together. Nerds and strong. And even though the ‘plague' in the title initially referred to COVID-19, to apply it to systemic racism - America's first plague - felt apt."

We're loving this idea and also excited for Best, who is best known for playing Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Needless to say, it's an amazing role and we can't wait to see him in action.
