Star Trek: Picard Gets New Photo and Character Description

One of the biggest comebacks for Star Trek will be Patrick Stewart who'll be reprising his role of Jean-Luc Picard in the upcoming Star Trek: Picard. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have a new still from the show giving us a look at Picard's pet pit bull, and we also have a character description for Old Man Picard.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Michael Chabon says, "[Picard is] a lot older and we're not shying away from that at all — we're dealing with a man who's in a very different place in his life." Executive producer Alex Kurtzman also added:

"It was terribly important to us that he remains fundamentally Picard… You will not see a version that betrays the man we loved from Next Generation. We're not doing that. But we wanted to put a character with that level of morality and leadership and who always does the right thing no matter how hard the circumstances … we wanted to put that to the test."

Though we've only really seen Picard in his vineyard in the promo shots, it's likely we're going to get a full trailer for the show during the Trek panel at SDCC 2019. Fans don't have to worry either, because the showrunners promise that Picard will indeed be going back to space, but since he's not a member of Starfleet anymore, it will be harder for him to "get something done to fight an injustice."

The Star Trek panel takes place on July 20 at Hall H. No release date has been set for Star Trek: Picard yet, but the show is expected to premiere sometime this year.
