Star Trek: Picard Gets Its First Trailer

There was a whole lot of excitement when CBS All Access announced that it was giving Star Trek legend Patrick Stewart his very own series. It's been years since Stewart appeared in the Star Trek franchise – the actor's last Star Trek movie was the 2002 Star Trek: Nemesis.

Now, it looks like Trekkies are in for a major treat. CBS All Access has just officially released the very first trailer for Star Trek: Picard, Stewart's brand new series centered on former Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The video is pretty short and reserved. In the teaser we get to see shots of what we assume to be Picard raising his hand to vines, washing his hands over running water, walking over a field, and transporting a crate of wine bottles. In the background, we get to hear a voice over questioning why the former Captain left Star Fleet.

"15 years ago today, you led us out of the darkness. You commanded the greatest rescue armada in history, then the unimaginable," the voice over says, "What did that cost you? Your faith. Your faith in us. Your faith in yourself. Tell us, why did you leave Starfleet Admiral?"

The teaser then shows us Jean-Luc Picard out of his uniform and in a simple tux and tie outfit as it fades out to the logo of Star Trek: Picard.

Though the teaser doesn't really give away too many details about the series, we get to see Picard in comfortable retirement, farming in what is obviously a vineyard. The voice over also gives away a new detail – Picard really did become an Admiral for Star Fleet. The Captain never really aspired for the position before, so we can't help but wonder how and why Picard took on the role. We're hoping the series reveals this.

Star Trek: Picard is expected to premiere sometime this year on CBS All Access.
