Star Trek: Picard Co-Showrunner Says Season 2 is a Redemption Story for Jean-Luc

There is little doubt that fans are already looking forward to Star Trek: Picard Season 2 next month. After all, it's about time we caught up with Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of La Sirena after the explosive conclusion of the previous season. So what exactly can we expect from the show this year? Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman shared some insight on this season's new arc and he confirms it's going to be a redemption story for Jean-Luc!

Akiva Goldsman served as one of the producers for Star Trek: Picard in the first season and is now taking over as co-showrunner along with Terry Matalas. With that in mind, Goldsman knows a lot about what's happening in Season 2 and doesn't mind sharing an awesome tease.

Goldsman recently spoke to Comicbook.com where he shared the differences between the first and second seasons.

"I think Season 1 was resurrection, and this might be redemption," Goldsman said of the second season. "I think we're going deeper in reverse, and what I mean by that we're going backwards in both time and in spirit, in psychology, so it's a look inward, a look back."

This is a fitting tease considering that we already know Star Trek: Picard Season 2 will feature a little bit of time travelling for Jean-Luc and his companions. Needless to say, we can't wait to see how Jean-Luc will be redeemed this year.

So what are the chances we'll be seeing more of the show beyond the second and third seasons? Goldsman previously stated that Season 4 has not yet been considered but it could happen depending on whether Patrick Stewart is ready to reprise the role yet again.

Star Trek: Picard will bring back Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady, and Brent Spiner. The series returns to Paramount+ on March 3, 2022.
