Star Trek: Karl Urban Shares Awesome Spock Memory Of Leonard Nimoy

The world is still missing Leonard Nimoy since his passing in 2015. Luckily, we still get awesome stories about the Star Trek icon. Karl Urban has just shared his favorite memory of Nimoy when the actor reprised his role as Spock in the 2009 film.

Urban recently made an appearance at Dallas Fan Days 2018 where he admitted he has several fond memories of working on the Star Trek reboot (via ComicBook.com). Interestingly, his favorite memory involves Nimoy and Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams.

"I remember watching [Nimoy] do his first take, and I was at the monitor with JJ and was watching, and I was like, ‘Oh! This is incredible.' At the end of the first take, JJ got up and went to go and give Leonard Nimoy direction on how to play Spock."

The moment was clearly nervewracking for Abrams when he realized he had to direct a Star Trek icon. Urban offered some hilarious details on how the director reacted to working with Nimoy.

"It went like this: he got up and he started walking over, and then at some point, as he was walking he looks up and he sees Leonard Nimoy and goes - and JJ's never lost for words, ever - but I literally clocked the moment he looked up and realized, ‘Holy s--t, I'm about to give direction to Spock.' And I asked him about it, he goes, ‘Yeah, I freaked out. I got halfway over there and thought, Oh my God, what can I tell this guy about playing this character that he doesn't already know?'. So he really had to think about it. It was kind of hilarious."

It's a hilarious moment that makes everyone realize that even celebrities get starstruck when they meet Nimoy. Maybe Abrams didn't need to coach the actor anymore but it's still cool to know he lost his nerve when he had to approach Nimoy.

Urban's next project is the live-action adaptation of the comic book series The Boys.
