Star Trek Discovery Season 3 Episode 6 Reveals a New Discovery

The latest episode of Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 once again proved that the series continues to pay tribute to the past shows while also introducing something completely new. In Scavengers, the Discovery was given a new name and since it is now in the 32nd century, the designation and changes made it seem like a completely new ship.

In Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 6, it was immediately confirmed that the Federation has made some major changes to the Discovery. The episode actually opens with the ship getting a fresh coat of paint, revealing its new name. The Discovery is now going to be called USS Discovery NCC-1031-A, or simply the Discovery-A.

This isn't the first time in the Star Trek Universe that a ship received a new designation. In fact, it's actually something of a tradition considering that the USS Enterprise became Enterprise-E when it was introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation. However, there is something exceptionally cool about Discovery's upgrade that truly brings it to the future.

One of the awesome new features in the Discovery is a programmable matter which is the shifting control substance that we saw in Book's ship in the season premiere. Amazingly, it is now in the Discovery as seen on the bridge crew's control panels. It also gave Discovery the detached nacelles that are a popular feature in 32nd-century ship design.
