After a successful run, Star Trek: Discovery finally wraps up its third season with a banger of an episode! Titled "That Hope Is You, Part 2," episode 13 marks a changing of the guard in the USS Discovery while setting up the events that will take place in the fourth season.
Episode 13 finally saw Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) fulfill her destiny as she was named the new captain of the USS Discovery. Burnham was appointed the role by Admiral Vance, head of Starfleet in the 32nd century. With her getting an upgraded role, it's only fitting that the crew will become fully integrated back into Starfleet.
Speaking of upgrades, the entire USS Discovery crew also got an outfit change and it's a welcome one at that. Their blue and metallic uniforms from their original era were officially replaced with the Starfleet uniform of their new time period.
In a recent conversation with ComicBook, showrunner Michelle Paradise opened up about Burnham's new role in the franchise and what it means for the next season. "I think being captain, in some ways you don't answer to people in the same way, but in some ways, you still have to answer to people," she explained.
Paradise continued: "And so I think what's exciting for the Burnham character is that season three takes her on this journey from essentially rejecting the chair in episode three when she and Saru are having that conversation, to taking it at the end of 13."
We still don't know what happens in Season 4 but it'll be interesting to see which direction Michael Burnham takes her crew as their new captain. Quite frankly, nobody deserves it more than her and it's incredible to see how much her character grew over the last three seasons.
Star Trek: Discovery is up for streaming on CBS All Access.
