Star Trek Discovery Actor Anson Mount Reveals Interesting Initial Reaction to Being Cast as Captain Pike

Not everyone gets to play an iconic character on Star Trek but that's exactly what happened to Anson Mount. The former Inhumans actor got to portray a new version of Captain Christopher Pike in the second season of Star Trek Discovery although he didn't know about the role at first. Not surprisingly, Mount had an interesting reaction when he was told he has been cast as Captain Pike in the series.

Mount recently spoke to Space.com about his experience on Discovery and the actor revealed that he had actually auditioned for a completely different role on the show.

"I was actually talking to them earlier in the year about the role of Captain Lorca and then they very wisely hired Jason Isaacs, who was great and did a much better job than I ever could have," Mount shared before admitting he was later asked to try out for something different. "When Pike was coming around, they called up and said, ‘Hey, there's this other role, a new captain, would you mind putting yourself on tape?"

Amazingly, Mount revealed that he didn't know what he was auditioning for because he was given "dummy scripts."

"So the character's name on the dummy scripts was Captain Parker. And I thought, ‘Well that's a terribly unimaginative name for a captain. All right, fine. I'll do it.' And I put myself on tape and then they called back the next day and they said, ‘Okay, doing it and it's Captain Pike." And I just about fell out of my seat!" he stated.

It's awesome to know that Mount got an awesome surprise in the end. Needless to say, his portrayal of Captain Pike was truly a memorable one.
