Star Trek Actor Simon Pegg Admits Being 'Irked' When Offered Scotty Role

There is little doubt that playing a Star Trek character is really high on a list of an actor's dream jobs. However, Simon Pegg wasn't thrilled when he was first offered the chance to portray Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott in the current reboot. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor revealed that he was initially irked when director J.J. Abrams dropped the offer.

Pegg recently spoke to Vanity Fair where he shared how Abrams approached him when offering the iconic Star Trek role.

"I got off an airplane, a flight from New York back to London. And opened my phone and there was an email from J.J. and it said ‘Do you want to play Scotty?' And I was almost annoyed by that. The tenacity of it irked me," Pegg said with a laugh. He then explained why he wasn't pleased with how Abrams made the offer.

"Because you can't just throw the ball into my court like that and expect me to smash it back. I need some time to think about it. But of course three or four days later I was like ‘Yes, of course!' But it just felt like such a, like he was just handing me this massive opportunity, and I wanted dinner and a movie," Pegg said.

There is no need to worry since Abrams would later give Pegg the dinner he wanted so badly.

"Oddly when he did he offered me the role in Star Wars, he did take me out to dinner and offer me over dinner," he shared.

We're certainly happy that Pegg decided to take on the role of Scotty although Abrams wasn't very subtle with the offer. We're just hoping we'll get to see more of his character in the upcoming Star Trek 4.
