Star Trek 4 Director on Whether Film Will be Connected to CBS Shows

The wait for Star Trek 4 continues and this has left fans wondering what to expect in the next movie. For instance, Trekkies have been speculating on the possibility that the new film will actually be connected to the CBS shows. Interestingly, Noah Hawley may have teased that it's possible.

Hawley, who has been tasked with writing and directing Star Trek 4, recently spoke to Deadline where he confirmed that there could be a connection between his movie and the TV shows. However, it's still unlikely to happen, especially since Star Trek Discovery executive producer Alex Kurtzman may have his own plans for the shows.

"There isn't a mandate from Paramount to connect it. And on some levels, there's a bit of the wall, the TV version and the film version," Hawley said.

He then continued by explaining that there are other plans for Star Trek 4.

"I have my own story and want to make sure as I did with Fargo and Legion that I'm respectful to the underlying material. That I'm not unintentionally changing things that people love or feel passionate about. So, it's important to do that research as I go," Hawley said.

Sadly, this could mean that we won't be seeing characters from Star Trek: Picard showing up in the new movie. Nevertheless, we're looking forward to what Hawley has planned for Star Trek 4.

It is still unclear whether Star Trek 4 will be a sequel to the previous films or if it will be considered a reboot. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
