Stan Lee: Tom Holland's Spider-Man is the Closest One to the Original

While some purists like to argue that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man is the "best" cinematic Spider-Man, Stan Lee himself has expressed himself that Tom Holland's version of the wallcrawler is the one that is most faithful to his version in the comics.

Lee has recently decided to get into his Twitter account, and he shares:

I think @TomHolland1996 is a great Spider-Man. He is the exact height and age I envisioned when I first wrote Spider-Man. Spidey was never supposed to be too large. How is my friend Tom doing?

Lee is not the only one to express his preference for Holland's Peter Parker. Kevin Smith himself has also said that the young version of Spider-Man is the best iteration of the character in the comics, and it's a great decision for Marvel to keep Peter Parker in this age for the MCU version.

When it comes down to it, I think the only people complaining about Maguire's Spidey being the "only" great version of Spider-Man are just blinded by nostalgia. Spider-Man was always the wisecracking friendly superhero (which Maguire barely was), and you have to love how Marvel found a way to incorporate animated eyes for the movie version.

Though Spider-Man turned into dust in Avengers: Infinity War, it's worth noting that Spider-Man 2 will be the first film coming out after Avengers 4 next year. Now it's just a question of finding out how exactly Peter Parker will be resurrected in the sequel.

Avengers: Infinity War is now out in theaters.
