Stan Lee Talks About What His Cameos Mean To The MCU

Stan Lee isn't just a legend because of his work as a comic book writer and as comic book creator – he's also immensely popular for the cameos he's made inside and outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Lee's had quite a number of cameos, popping in almost every Marvel movie as well as a number of Marvel series and Fox mutant films. Lee's appearances have become so iconic, fans expect Lee to continue appearing in all of the MCU's upcoming projects.

Speaking with fans in a panel at this year's New Orleans Wizard World Comic Con, Lee decided to talk a bit more about his cameos, discussing what his many appearances mean for the MCU.

"I don't know if any of them mean anything. [Laughter] I know they're like a step apart from the universe. My favorite one was the one where I'm standing with Thor and he's having a drink and I ask him for a drink. He won't give it to me, he says it's too strong for me; well you can tell how rugged I am, I tell him, "I can drink it!" So he gives it me and in the next scene they're carrying me out. Now the reason that's my favorite cameo is, if you think about it, it's the only one that had two scenes. I'll graduate from that to three scenes, four scenes; maybe one day I'll really be in the movie!"

For those who aren't that familiar with the reference, Lee's talking about his cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Lee plays a WWII veteran who finds himself being dragged out of the party after Thor (Chris Hemsworth) introduces an Asgardian liquor "aged a thousand years in barrels built from the wreck of Grunhills fleet."

Lee deserves his own movie too! One where he plays the lead and the different side characters that pop up every now and then.

We can't wait to see what kind of cameo Lee's going to appear in Black Panther when the film hits cinemas on February 16, 2018.
