Squid Game Creator Might Be Planning to Kill Off Gi-Hun in Season 2

There is little doubt that fans are already wondering what will happen in Squid Game Season 2. But is it possible that creator Hwang Dong-hyuk had already given us an idea of what will happen to Lee Jung-jae's character? Hwang's comments about his plans for the Netflix show's second season may have teased Seong Gi-hun's death!

In the first season of Squid Game, Seong Gi-hun was introduced as a desperate man who is down on his luck and drowning in debt. That desperation led to Gi-hun joining the dangerous contest with a deadly twist. However, the unlikely hero of the Netflix series managed to emerge victorious, albeit at a truly high price. But is it possible that Gi-hun's journey is coming to an end in Season 2?

Hwang recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his plans for Squid Game Season 2 and the creator had somehow indicated that he had another ending in mind for the first season. However, he ultimately chose to go with the cliffhanger that made it obvious Gi-hun's story is far from over.

"We came to the conclusion that the question that we wanted to propose cannot be done if he left on the plane," Hwang said. "The question that we want to answer — why has the world come to what it is now? — can only be answered or can only be proposed if Gi-hun turned back and walked towards the camera. So that's how we ended up with that ending in the finale."

To be clear, Hwang had initially planned for Gi-hun's story to conclude on a happy note as he heads for the US to reunite with his daughter. That could still be in the plans. However, with expectations now being so much higher, Hwang might ultimately go with Gi-hun making a huge sacrifice to ensure his daughter's safety and put an end to the dangerous contest. Sadly, that could mean Player 456 will play the ultimate price.

For now, there hasn't been an official announcement about Squid Game Season 2. However, it will only be a matter of time before we get the good news. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
