Square Enix is Finally Bringing Older Kingdom Hearts Games to Xbox One

Fans found it odd when Square Enix announced that Kingdom Hearts III would be in the Xbox One but not the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD Collection, nor Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue (what a mouthful). Thankfully, that's all about to change since Square Enix has announced that both of these collections will be coming to the Xbox One in 2020, so those that bought Kingdom Hearts III without playing other games can finally understand what happens.

Square Enix explicitly stated that it would be the separate collections of Kingdom Hearts coming to Microsoft's console and not Kingdom Hearts: The Story Thus Far, which has both CDs in one nifty box. It's a shame that Square Enix will release these collections separately, unless they change their minds, though we should just be thankful that they are giving the Xbox One some love.

Why it took the company this long to bring the other Kingdom Hearts games to Xbox One is going to be a mystery most of us won't be able to solve, especially since the next generation of consoles is expected to start late next year. Then again, if Project Scarlett is going to support backward-compatibility, this shouldn't be a problem.

Even if it took them this long, I highly encourage Xbox One players to pick these collections up. While not well-written, Kingdom Hearts has moments of beauty and wonder that other games can't match up to. The combat is also really slick and is worth playing for that alone if you're not a fan of dialogue that has darkness and light mentioned 1,000 times.

Kingdom Hearts III is now available on PS4 and Xbox One. The aforementioned collections coming to Xbox One next year are already available on the PS4.
