Here's What Happened Before Spy Classroom Episode 3

In Episode 2, the girls find out that defeating Klaus is nearly impossible, as their elaborate plans fail multiple times. While he doesn't explicitly say so, Klaus is rather impressed. Eventually, he decides to be frank with them.

Klaus reveals that he's the last survivor of the legendary team Inferno who took up the Impossible Mission the girls are about to attempt. He was only spared because he had been away on a different mission.

But the girls aren't all that surprised. During their time trying to defeat Klaus, they've honed their skills enough to deduce that Klaus has experienced a terrible loss.

While Klaus more or less releases the girls, telling them they're free to flee if they so wish, they all decide to stay, saying they know what it feels like to hit rock bottom.

Fast forward to the next month, Klaus and the girls proceed to infiltrate the enemy territory.

After a series of misadventures, the girls ask for a party night, which Klaus reluctantly allows. They then proceed to get drunk and fall asleep.

The event reminds Klaus of one of his now-deceased partners from Inferno who told him that, for a spy, it's the ultimate demonstration of trust to allow one to see them asleep.

We expect the next episode to delve more deeply into the impossible mission.

While, in some ways, it's a relief that the girls' training won't take up all Spy Classroom episodes of Season 1, the time skip does feel a bit off.

After Klaus and the girls reached an understanding, we immediately skip to the beginning of the mission (three weeks later) while Episode 1 covered a single day, making for a very uneven pace.

The anime has interesting ideas and Klaus' backstory is full of potential. He and his spy classroom do have an interesting dynamic, but with such a long period skipped, it doesn't feel totally earned.

What changed in his demeanor after the honest discussion and how did he earn the girls' complete trust? And why did the girls even sign up for the mission when their initial inclination was to quit?

The anime attempts to justify that by implying that they won't be welcome in their academies any longer, but what about the outside world makes a deadly mission preferable? And why do all of them agree despite their different personalities?

These are all aspects we hope to see better explained in the next episodes.
